Meet our CEO & Founder: Allayah Beamon
From Dream to Reality
The inception of A1 Academics traces back to my formative years at Loyola Marymount University. Blessed with a full scholarship and a grant acknowledging my academic achievements, financial constraints were not a concern. However, I yearned for a source of income to enhance my university experience. Engaging with families in the community, I began tutoring, and the positive feedback was overwhelming. Parents would often exclaim, “Miss Layah, your tutoring is A1!” Thus, A1 Academics was born.
Balancing Passion and Ambition
As my reputation for academic excellence grew, so did my clientele. Balancing tutoring, a demanding job at Sony Pictures Entertainment, and a hefty class schedule was challenging. Despite being dubbed the "Nerd" of my family, my passion for education made it worthwhile. I eventually started referring clients to classmates to manage the increasing demand. Despite a successful stint in the entertainment industry, I felt a calling to return to education. My faith in God provided me with the vision and strength to overcome my fears. I realized that my purpose was to dispel stereotypes and instill excellence in students facing adversity. With a sense of divine guidance, I pushed past my apprehensions and embraced the journey ahead.
Building a Unique Educational Service
I meticulously researched the steps to establish a business, dedicating hours after work to bring my vision to life during the most difficult time in our country, "COVID 19". Constructing my website and brand from scratch, I was determined to stand out by accommodating all learning styles. At A1 Academics, we believe that every student learns differently, and we cater to their unique needs. Beyond tutoring, we offer mentorship, treating our students as the scholars they are becoming. With tutors from LMU's crème de la crème, CSUDH, UCLA, and USC we ensure quality education and mentorship.
A Family Legacy and a Community Focus
As the second entrepreneur in my family, I aim to pave the way in the world of entrepreneurship. Our reach extends across West LA, Silicon Beach, and South Bay cities, with aspirations to expand nationwide. Every step I take is for my family, striving to create a legacy of empowerment and education.
Overcoming Challenges
The path to becoming a 24-year-old CEO was far from smooth. Especially starting a business in the height of the pandemic in 2019! Financial constraints meant I relied on my support system to kickstart my business. Without a team, I was initially fearful of failing to attract clients. However, my faith in God reassured me that I was meant to pursue this path. Resilience and determination, fueled by my belief, saw me through those early challenges. I am now 30 and have operated this business for 6 years.

As a young, educated Black professional, I am proud of the inclusive impact of A1 Academics. Our focus is on benefiting families, empowering tutors, parents, and students alike. Together, we achieve, grow, empower, and equip, setting the foundation for lifelong success. Through faith and perseverance, I am dedicated to making a lasting difference in the lives of those we serve, and I thank God for replacing my fear with faith and giving me the perserverance to do my life's purpose!
